Top Aesthetics for 2023

As we dive a little more into the first month of the new year, we can start seeing what emerging trends will come to light or follow from the previous year. Trends can come and go but the aesthetic is what is here to stay. We can all say we are or have been trying to find our aesthetic. From scrolling through Pinterest to reminiscing on past decades to come up with a cohesive look that matches us.

The fashion industry will face new challenges in areas such as sustainability, innovation, consumers, politics, and much more. These changes can have a significant impact on businesses and individuals. If you want to stay ahead of the curve and know what is happening in your field, reading about these topics can give you an understanding of how things might change down the road.

As this is more of a gen – z thing, we see the influence of social media. We have had these Tiktok stars coming around for the past 2 years building this “aesthetic “that people want to follow! I am here to say that there is more than just the “IT Girl”, and I want to talk about the top 5 I think will come to light in 2023 even with so much going on around the world.

Clean Girl Aesthetic

While the look may seem like a simple way to appear more polished and elegant, it can be very easy to implement into your everyday life. The key is not overcomplicating things or trying too hard - let yourself enjoy looking good without any extra effort. If you're feeling ambitious, consider using makeup for special occasions or when going out with friends, but overall try not to put in so much work that it becomes tiring. Different aspects like makeup, hair, outfit, nails, smell, the lifestyle. We get this from just videos of girls living life like this that others want to.

A clean girl lifestyle is all about taking care of herself mentally, physically, and emotionally. A clean girl reads books, does a daily skincare routine including cleaning her skin twice a day with warm water and lemon juice (or another citrus), eats a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables, works out regularly to keep her body working optimally - it's not easy! However, this demanding but rewarding way of living comes with few drawbacks as compared to an unkempt or unhealthy person.

Sustainable Aesthetic

I believe that more people are becoming interested in the environmental impact of their fashion choices. This is especially apparent in the industry itself, where attention to sustainability has increased significantly over recent years. There are several reasons for this; first and foremost, climate change is one major issue we need to take seriously. Secondly, many people now feel they have an important role to play in helping make a difference on earth by being environmentally friendly with their spending habits.

When I say this is an aesthetic, it is because it is not bothered by trends that come and go. There is no such thing as "cool" at the moment, it is how you want to live. We can shop for sustainable brands or upcycle or trade. Little things like this do not mean it has to be a certain color or style, but the meaning behind the look.

Old Money Aesthetic

For generations, the obscenely wealthy have hidden their secret lives behind a veil of secrecy to maintain their privacy. Many movies and TV shows have been inspired by this lifestyle, with novels perpetuating it as an ideal for those willing to work hard. However, this next generation has seen on social media a firsthand look into what it's like to be part of old money.

Many people want to achieve an "old money aesthetic." This means having high standards for appearance and being able to afford things that look nice. Many people who don't have a lot of money can still achieve the same look as those with more by access to great resources when it comes to fashion. Wealth and style go hand in hand; oftentimes, expensive clothing or accessories are not necessary to look sophisticated and classy. Many people might be able to achieve this same look for less if they find some good deals on clothes.

“Barbiecore” Aesthetic

In homage to Barbie's iconic silhouettes, fashion designers are eagerly embracing cliché interpretations of Greta Gerwig's highly acclaimed retelling of the film. Whether it be in accessories such as this 80s neon skater ensemble or more general looks, retro style is becoming an increasingly popular trend in today's society.

  • The actress and entrepreneur have brought a new level of glamour to the Barbie aesthetic by refreshing her zeal and appeal. Her film is set to promote a feminist take on the role- of images of real-life Barbies continue to be used in ads then we can only hope that girls don't become addicted to diets in order to fit into skinny stereotypes.

Pink is a color in any season, and it can be worn in many different ways. Some people believe that pink is the color of the season because it's associated with summertime. Others may choose to go all out with bright outfits by wearing accessories in different colors and textures together. Throughout the year we will rise until the movie is realized and well on after. My opinion is it’s a mix of all people in love with the pink/ girl aesthetic and mixing it with the decade of the 80s!

Cottagecore Aesthetic

Cottagecore is inspired by a romanticized interpretation of western agricultural life. It focuses on the idea that simple living and harmony with nature can be achieved through adherence to certain principles, such as sustainable practices, responsible harvesting, and organic farming. Romantic features are a hallmark of the Cottagecore aesthetic. To achieve this style, pick a classic piece that can be worn year-round: A flowy linin fabric to wear during any season; Classic floral and neutral colors from dresses to utility jackets. With flowy linin fabric, you will look like someone who knows their stuff!

Adding depth and character with textures and unique details will give your Cottagecore style a more dimensional feel. This look features an inviting homey vibe that is expressed through soft fabrics like wool and cashmere blends. You'll be enveloped in overwhelming comfort with these materials around you.

The 2023 aesthetic is optimistic and forward-thinking, featuring a more open and embracing culture. This includes an increased focus on creativity and innovation, as well as the promotion of outdoor activities and natural surroundings. I think these five aesthetics present this as a whole for the year!
